ACTORS AUDITIONS
CHARLOTTE HARPER AUDITION FOR BONNIE
The first person in which I auditioned for the role of Bonnie was Charlotte Harper. I thought Charlotte would fit well as playing this character as her personality is fiery and loud. Charlotte is always up for an adventure and is willing to do anything. I think this is quite like Bonnie’s character and what she would be like therefore meaning the acting would come naturally for her as the character isn’t too different to herself. Charlotte has a very good ‘Bonnie’ look to her as her hair is blond and long, which is the look I wanted Bonnie to have.
I auditioned Charlotte by getting her to walk around the room and do different poses and actions. For example, I got her to pretend to shoot someone and do roles on the floor. These actions would be expected from the character of Bonnie within a heist. Charlotte took to these like a pros, she followed direction clearly and really engaged with the character. From looking at all my auditions I have decided to give the role to Charlotte due to the fact she looks the part and acts the part very well. This isn’t to say the other applicants weren’t good enough, but Charlotte exceeded my ideas for the characters and really made it her own in a naturalistic and funny way. |
JEMIMAH NEWMAN-SMITH AUDITION FOR BONNIE
The second person in which I auditioned for the role of Bonnie was Jemimah Newman-Smith. I thought Jemimah would be a good potential candidate as she has had previous experiences acting. This means she would be able to interpret the character well and really act it as if she was the real Bonnie from Bonnie and Clyde. Also, in terms of personality Jemimah is a go getter and will not take any messing around from anyone, she will say it how it is. Her forward nature would work well for the character of Bonnie as that how Bonnie acted back in the day and that is what spurred her on to become one of the biggest outlaws in the world. The only problem by using Jemimah is her look, Jem has brown curly hair and Bonnie is stereotypically blonde. This isn’t a massive issue as if she acts the part well it will cause no issues as the performance will still be convincing.
I auditioned Jemimah by making her perform different poses with the toy gun and doing some simple stunts for example a role. Jemimah did well in this section of the audition, as due to having dance experience she does active movement very well. As well as this Jemimah followed direction well and was always asking me how she could improve her performance. From looking over all the auditions I have decided not to give the role to Jemimah only because her hair colour doesn’t fit stereotypically what Bonnie’s hair looks like. And due to the music video not having words in it I need the audience to understand non-verbally that this girl is Bonnie. Apart, from that Jemimah was good for the role and worked really well on screen. |
GRACE DAVID AUDITION FOR BONNIE
The third person I auditioned for the role of Bonnie was Grace David. Grace had attended stage coach many years previously so therefore when she came to audition her acting talents really shined through. Grace interpreted the character of Bonnie perfectly and really got into the role, she would change into a fiery and determined girl whilst playing the character. This is exactly the performance I wanted to get out of Bonnie. However, looking at character stereotypes I have seen that Grace’s personality is completely different to Bonnie and the way she presents herself. This may become an limitation of using Grace, as she won’t be able to relate to the character as well and therefore might not be as good at playing the character. But this might not become a problem considering she act very well. Another positive to Grace, is due to having blonde hair she would really fit the part in terms of looks. I want the audience to understand who Bonnie straight away and getting her hair right is one of the key aspects of this.
I auditioned Grace be making her do different heist poses and activities for example doing roles on the floor and posing with the gun as if she was going to shoot someone. This would give me a good look and feel for my production. Grace did this section of the audition well as she took direction well and listen to what I was asking from her. From looking over all the auditions I have given the role to Charlotte over Grace, just because Charlotte more stereotypically fits into the role of Bonnie then any other person I auditioned. I need Grace was really close to getting the part because of her acting experience, so I will keep this in mind for other productions in the future. |
FINAL DECISION FOR BONNIE
JACK PENTON AUDITION FOR CLYDE
The next character that I wanted to audition for my music video was Clyde, the second part to the duo of Bonnie and Clyde. I auditioned Jack Penton firstly for the role. I thought Jack would be a good fit for this character as he is very adventurous and brave person. Stereotypically, this is like the traits in which the character Clyde poses. Due to Jack’s personality matching the character of Clyde’s I thought he would be able to act very naturally and make it very realistic when watching. In terms of looks Jack fits the character perfectly, as the character is supposed to be a young man who is very active and out doors like. Jacks blonde hair and blue eye features also fit the character well. Due to all of this I thought Jack would work well in the production as the character Clyde, therefore I hired him.

FIN GAUNT AUDITION FOR CLYDE
The second person in which I auditioned for the role of Clyde was Fin Gaunt. Fin was good in the audition as he took feedback well and really wanted to make his performance as good as it could possibly be. However, even though Fin worked hard in achieving the character of Clyde there are a few limitations which suggests to me he shouldn’t get the role. Fin’s personality does not match with what I am going for with Clyde, I want Clyde to be a scary leader and powerful and Fin is more humorous then scary. I also want the relationship between the character of Bonnie and Clyde to be natural and realistic and I don’t think Fin would work well with the actress I have asked to play the role of Bonnie. This is due to them being friends and nothing romantic. Another limiting factor that Fin looks don’t fit the character of Clyde and what we want from him. For example, Fin is tall and has dark hair. Whereas I want the character of Clyde to be shorter and have blonde hair. This is due to wanting the characters looks to fit with the original Bonnie and Clyde. Because of all of this I will not be choosing Fin as the actor to play the character of Clyde within my music video.

LOCATIONS
RESEARCH
Location One
For my music video one shot I want to film is my characters, Bonnie and Clyde, running down an quiet street. The shot will be a tracking shot, the camera will be mounted on top of a car and as the car moves the characters will chase the car. This will look as if the characters are running down the street in sheer panic. I took inspiration from the music video ‘Revolution’ by Rat Boy where it shows a guy cycling down a road and the camera tracking. For this shot to be successful I need the location to be quiet, so that cars or people don’t get in the shot or are inconvenienced in the shot. Because of this I needed to research quiet streets in Pangbourne, as this is where I want to shoot my production as it is very accessible for me and my actors. |
From this point I researched into different streets or residential areas within Pangbourne which are quiet and don’t have that much cars/people about in. From this research I got a list of the quietest streets in Pangbourne, which were: Kennedy Drive, Bourne Road, St James Close and Meadow Lane. Due to only needing one location for this shot, I could further investigate the pros and cons of each area and really see which location would be best for my production. For example, after visiting St James Close, I discovered that it’s on a hill. This will make it difficult when filming as my characters must chase the car and keep up with it and this will be difficult up hill. A problem with Kennedy Drive is that the roads are very curved, they don’t run straight, which means you can’t see around the bends. This is a hazard as you don’t know for sure if the road is clear and that there are no cars coming. This could put both myself and the actors in jeopardy as we will not see anyone coming. I like both Meadow Lane and Bourne Road as potential locations for my production as they are both secluded from ongoing traffic, cars or people which means they are safe to film in. However, I prefer Bourne Road location just because the roads are very wide and straight. This is exactly what I envisioned when thinking of where to film this shot and I believe the area will be safe to film in.

This is a map from google maps showcasing where these streets and residential areas are in Pangbourne. You can see from this map how far or close each location is from one another. It gives a good idea or where I should go to try and film this specific scene within my production.
LOCATION RECCE ONE
RESEARCH
Location Two
Within my Bonnie and Clyde music video to ‘Sexx Law’ I need a dramatic looking field, which preferably has a hill on it, so I can get these two specific shots of my characters. One being a shot of Bonnie and Clyde walking up to the camera with a smoke grenade going off in the background as well as shots of them throwing money in the air. For this location research I am researching into local fields, West Berkshire area, in which would work for the shots I want to create. The inspiration I got for the money shot has come from the Stephen Daldry film ‘Trash’ in the scene where the two characters throw money from a top of a hill. This will be a similar shot in terms of framing and proximity between the different characters. However, the location will be different. |
My research into different outside field location allowed me to discover these six locations: Northcroft park, River Thames in Pangbourne, River Pang in Pangbourne, Holybrook Linear Park, Upper Basildon village hall and Mapledurham fields. These locations I found are local to me which is helpful as I don’t want to go out the way too much when filming. I discovered these locations by using the West Berkshire page, you simply type in your home address and it will find the locations you are looking for local to your address. This was super helpful as I was struggling in finding new unique places to film. Some of these locations however, I discovered by looking on maps around the area and seeing different public plots of lands. I only really want to use one of these locations for my production so therefore will have to choose my favourite one and the one in which is the most suited in what the overall look of the music video will be like. This location is the River Pang in Pangbourne. This is due to being secluded yet have an open natural look to it. It isn’t a field in which is part of a park it is for walks with the dog and where famers keep their cattle.

LOCATION RECCE TWO
RESEARCH
Location Three
For this ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ concept to work I need there to be robberies involved. This is because Bonnie and Clyde robbed stores and broke into places and to make the production realistic, I need to do have this in my own. Therefore, I want to use different stores in which would be open in allowing me to film. This probably means independent companies rather then big ones, as the people running the stores should probably own them, so they are more willing to agree straight up. Locally the best place for me to film is Pangbourne, so I shall look up independently ran shops within this area. |
